Gloucester Cathedral
Riding for the Disabled Celebration
of the Donkey
Marianne and Andy had a day off school on April 11th when they went to the Riding for
the Disabled Celebration of the Donkey at Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucestershire.
The event was attended by many of the Riding for the Disabled groups from Wiltshire,
Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and our group, The Vale of Pewsey group.
You''ll find pictures of our day out below - some are on the dark side due to being
taken inside the Cathedral
| This event was agreed to by the Dean of the Cathedral as one of the
Millennium events held at the Cathedral over the year. Even on a wet, miserable day the
visit to the Cathedral was well worth while. |
 |
| The front of the Cathedral has a splendid set of carvings above the main
doors - a really impressive setting for the start of the Festival. |
 |
(Pupils from the Unit go Horseriding
once a fortnight.)
| From inside the cloisters we were able to go into the inner garden where
the monks would have found peace and quiet. From here we took a picture looking up to the
main tower of the cathedral.

You can see
pictures of horseriding on this link -
| Inside the Cathedral we were really lucky being only four rows from the
front - where all the tableau's took place - they followed the theme of how the donkey
appeared in the story of Jesus' life and death. |

Did we enjoy the day - see what you think!
| And I can say after several tastings, that the Hot Cross Buns provided
were yummy!
Our thanks go out to the Pewsey Vale riding group, the Dean of the cathedral and the
many volunteers who help pupils with disabilities enjoy their riding sessions.
